Dr B M Srinivasa Rao (“BMS”) was the General Counsel of IBM for ASEAN/South Asia for the period 1991 to 1996.
Prior to 1991 he served as IBM Counsel in India, Australia and Japan. He had also served as of counsel to J B Dadachanji & Co, a leading law firm in Delhi.
From 1996 to 1998 he was the Regional Director of Strategic Projects, IBM ASEAN/South Asia and was Executive VP and Partnership Executive of IBM India and IBM Global Services from 1998 to 2000.
Upon his retirement from IBM he commuted between Singapore and India where he served as a management consultant to several Indian enterprises. With his strong interest in corporate governance, he has continued his membership with the U.K. Institute of Directors and avails himself to serve on the boards of companies from time to time. He was a Member of Karnataka Tax Reforms Commission during 2000 - 2002 where he focused on e-governance and administrative reform.
During his years in IBM Dr Rao acquired extensive experience in dealing with business partners and customers of IBM and helped strategise and execute IBM’s re-entry into India, in partnership with the Tatas, in 1991. His insight into technology centered businesses, his experience in planning the strategic positioning of a company’s legal and business interest has given him uncommon exposure and made him an invaluable member of any business operating in India. His return to law practice in India will greatly assist the Firm’s clients who have a need for a skilled international lawyer and a person of high integrity to represent and safeguard their interest in India.
